Valentine's day. Oh yeah.
I'm making my man a gift basket thing because I'm trying not to go overboard on spending money for v-day when we have an anniversary 10 days later. What's more important... yeah. Exactly.
Let me lay this out first so it's more personal so I can get more personal answers. My guy is super interested in flying... he has X-Plane 10 (which I lovingly purchased for him for Christmas) and is seriously planning on getting his license sometime. He is basically a coffee/cigar connoisseur. He makes coffee every morning (he loves dark roast from Starbucks, particularly Sumatra) and usually makes and drinks 4-5 lattes everyday. He goes to the gym every chance he gets, loves working out and I generally go with him. He smokes cigars and a pipe sometimes, but lately he hasn't... so I probably won't get anything related to that. He's also really into guns right now. But I can't buy him a gun. He also loves wine and wine products (glasses, aerators, etc). But I also can't purchase him any wine, either. He just got a job, with an office, and it's empty, and he's been asking for stuff to put on his desk. He loves cologne, he's quite obsessive but I just got him Acqua Di Gio for christmas and he has like 2 whole bottles of Nautica and stuff. Plus cologne, for his tastes, is really expensive. He likes chocolate covered strawberries and his dad keeps pestering me to make him dinner. Oh, and he's a graphic designer (so am I, but it's not my professional title like his is...I switched my major, but I still do work for people). And he was in a quite successful band once, and loveslovesloves music. & surfing/the beach.
Here's what I have so far:
-Candy... nothing too valentinesy. Just your everyday chocolates he enjoys and stuff to fill up the wine glasses.
-Yeah... 2 cool looking wine glasses. He likes cool looking glasses. He can fill it up with wine later ;)
-Komodo Dragon Starbucks coffee... he mentioned wanting to try this
-Simple, chrome or wooden picture frame with a pic of us in it while in Florida
-Mixed CD with songs we both like
-An Instructional Guide to becoming a Private Pilot... he was looking for one of these the other day but failed. I win.
-I wanna do the man/love coupon things... but not sure what to put. We don't live together yet.
-Making chocolate covered strawberries of course.
-Taking an empty bottle with a cork and, instead of a card, writing the love note on a piece of paper I make look old and rugged & putting it in the bottle.
Anything I should add/remove? This is harder than it should be.
Thanks everyone.

For Valentines Day last year I got my boyfriend a heart shaped box of Godiva chocolates, a teddy bear, a warm red robe, fudge, a wine glass (along with a bottle of wine for us to share that night), an assortment of Valentines Day candies and a card and I even put it in a basket with red easter grass and glitter. I know that the box of Godiva boxes was expensive but it didn't matter to me that he only got me the cheapest flower assortment off of eflowers (a dozen tulips) because I don't think money matters and I feel that if I have the money to spend on Valentines day and on someone I think that's worth it (flowers were 30 with shipping, the box of chocolates was like 60 by itself), why shouldn't I? Money shouldn't matter even if most ppl think the guy should go out of his way for the girl. Well at first he appreciated it but whenever Valentines day was brought up he'd say things like what were you trying to get me fat? Why'd you buy me all those chocolates for? Sometimes I felt like he didn't appreciate my good intentions or maybe that I did go overboard, but then again isn't it the thought that counts? I figured we should make it a special day since I'm 2 hours away at college and I don't get to see him every weekend. How do ya'll feel about this? I felt like telling him in a sarcastic tone, well maybe youre gift was too cheap! I didn't know what else to get him for valentines day but we had been dating for about a year at that point so i figured why not? Also I thought it would be too frou frou to get a guy flowers and I wanted to make that night special. Help?
* typo instead of godiva boxes, meant to say godiva chocolates.
