Everything here was at least very good and a few of the wines are just exceptional. As one of the first South Island wineries you run into off the inter island ferry, this place puts out a great lunch spread. Grab a bottle, a cheese ...
I enjoyed the wines from Central Otago, a region on the South Island that gets about as Continental as possible in New Zealand. The whites were surprisingly robust because of the unique summer heat, so I was told.

South Island Part 1. May 17, 2012 by Brittany. We started our journey through the South Island on Monday. So far we have visited Kaikoura, Christchurch, Akaroa, Lake Tekapo, Wanaka and we arrived in Te Anau this evening. Kaikoura's highlights included a beautiful view and fantastic thinly sliced italian style ... Rockburn, a much smaller boutique type winery compared to Drylands has absolutely delicious wines. In particular the Riesling, both dry and sweet. 20120517-233023.
Planning a 16 day vacation touring the south island in April of 2008. Is this a good time to travel to New Zealand? Starting with 7 days in Queenstown, what would be the best day trips to make around Queenstown? Any special tours. Then planning a car tour up north. Maybe over to Haast for 1 night. Up to the Greymouth area. Eventually up to the Nelson area. Abel Tasmen is a must for us. 2 or 3 days there? Open to suggestions. Thinking of either flying back home out of Christchurch or Wellington? Possible wine country drive. Marborough sound trip? So many possibilities but would like to narrow it down to the best highlights, but have it be a relaxing pace and not extremely pricey. Open to a day or night here or there along the way. Not sure when we will be back so just want to make the most of our time there.

So I've asked a very similar question to this but I figure I'll put more info in this one so you don't have to write me a novel. I'm studying abroad a semester (Jan-May) and want to try and experience everything without feeling like I missed out on something. I'll definately be studying in the South Island so I want to know if theres anything you can think of that I should/must do, see, experience, etc. Here's what I've come up with..

I know it may seem a bit extensive but I honestly want to know ANYTHING that will be worth my while here. I'm so excited to go and would appreciate any and all feedback you have. I'll most likely be going to school in Dunedin (ChCh as a backup), so if there's certain things other than those I already mentioned in those cities that'd be helpful considering I'll be broke after I do all these things... gah:)
Thank you so much, it means alot that you're helping me out with this!

I'm planning a trip to New Zealand. Will be biking the West Coast of the South Island, ending with the train trip over the alps to Christchurch. Have a week afterwards and trying to decide where to spend it. I definitely want to do some wine tasting, and know a winery I like in Martinborough. That being said, I was also thinking of containing myself to the South Island on this trip. Is the Martinborough region better, worse, the same as Marlborough/Blenheim?

I'm torn between Australia and NZ What about Dunedin or the South Island? I'm an American and get along well with people from all walks of like. I'm a paralegal/legal secretary, my fiance' is an electrician. Are these skills sought after in NZ, and what wage should we expect? Also, we prefer tranquil surroundings, enjoy the outdoors and a nice glass of wine on occasion!
Thank you!

I am moving to the South Pacific island of American Samoa. I want to ship a few bottles of wine, beer, and mudslide drinks to meet me when I get there. I am wondering if anyone knows if we are allowed to mail alcholic beverages with the USPS (United States Postal Service)? American Samoa is a US territory so its not a International territory. Thank you with any information I can get.
