I mean I am also a NBA fan and root for a team in the NJ Nets who has the worst attendance of all time and one of the worst records of all time. They can't afford to have the superstars that the Celtics have, but I don't complain and wine about it saying it's unfair. I am not going to wine if Lebron lets say for argument sake went to the Celtics instead of my team who sucks. Sure there is a salary cap in the NBA that there isn't in baseball, but still I don't hear people saying the Celtics buy their championships by buying Ray Allen and Garnett and Rasheed Wallace. The statement that a team can buy championships is reared solely out of jealousy that's all it is. Otherwise how do you explain me not complaining about my team the Nets having the worst record and having a financial disadvantage over bigger markets and saying it's unfair that the Celtics need to buy their way to the top while my team tries to earn it by developing players? And the Celtics just like the Yankees have won a ton of championships. I mean I can understand someone not liking a team simply because their fans are arrogant and they win a lot of championships, but to say a team can buy a championship shows how insecure and irritable people can be. You can have 9 Albeert Pujols in your lineup everyday and 5 Mariano Riveras in your bullpen and 5 Roy Halladays in your rotation and it still would be impossible to win the world series every single year. People seem to lose sight on the fact that this game is also based on luck. Your superstar players can do everything right as a hitter and still fail. You hit the ball like a rocket a lot of times in a game and it guarantees you nothing. You pitch a great game and it guarantees you nothing. Your bullpen shuts down the opponent and it guarantees you nothing. CC Sabathia is pitching in a world series game isn't a lock he will pitch well. The balls that batters put in play against Sababthia can be all good pitches to get groundballs, but it's no guarantee a lot of them will be hit to an infielder rather than an outfielder. You have no FFIN clue just how hard it is to win a world series no less compete in the playoffs every year even with having a great roster. So no you can't buy a championship.
People seem to have a hard time understanding the concept EARN. As in you must earn your way to win a championship even with a great roster. And there is a big difference between buying players and buying championships and that they don't go hand and hand. So if the Mets won the World Series this year, they wouldn't be buying a championship seeing as the only 3 players in their everyday starting lineup are players they developed?
Obsessiv account. Lets say the Yankees really did buy a championship, they you are basically selling to me that all the Yankees needed last year was Burnett, A Rod, Swisher Sabathia, Tex, Damon and Matsui. So in other words those other guys the Yankees didn't buy didn't count for anything. And to let you know there is a 25 man roster for each team and the yankees had just those 7 that they didn't develop. 18/25 equates to about 68% of the roster were homegrown players nearly 70% was homegrown. And you know what by replacing Matsui with Nick Johnson (a guy that came out of the Yankees system) this year that gives the Yankees the same amount of homegrown players as last year. Last I checked 68%>32%.
Explain to me why 68% is not less than 32%?
Also Obsessiv would the Yankees of won the world series last year without Rivera? And if you still think that they would have then you know nothing about baseball.
