Back to my first love in wine, red. Give me a spicy, complex, juicy red any day and I will be a happy girl. Even though it has warmed up in Minnesota I still.
During the first week of May, more than 1000 wines from Washington, Oregon British Columbia and Idaho (as well as a handful from Montana, Alberta and even Saskatchewan) were judged blind by wine professionals at the ...

Petite Sirah, also known as Durif or Petite Syrah, was originally developed in the late 1800s in France, though is probably most known for its wines produced from California grapes. Petite Syrah tends to be a relatively robust ...
To celebrate Marc and Unwined TV both getting to 25, we give some love to one of the most underrated red wine grapes: Petite Sirah. Full-bodied, fruity and tannic, this underground grape has done well in its adopted home of ...
I know very little of wine, but Petite Sirah is the one kind that I remember really liking (and has a name that's easy to pronounce). I'm looking for other wines similar to this.
I like wines that have a strong flavor and aren't too sweet or too dry. I also really love the ones that have the buttery aftertaste. I don't know what that is. I've tried the Syrah and Shiraz and didn't much care for either.
I haven't found too many white wines that really stand out to me as being either good or bad. They're usually pretty bland to me, or just too sweet.
Any suggestions?
also: how important are brands? Are there any brands you'd stay far away from? are cheap brands that much different than the less cheap?
Merlot was so common, I thought I was supposed to stay away from it in order to be snotty. ;)

I don't know much about wine, but I found a bottle of Petite Sirah from 1990. It's from Mirassou Vineyards, San Jose, California. By "I found", I mean I was cleaning out my basement and there it was. I have no idea where it came from. Anyway, is it any good? Should I just open it and find out?

giuseppe has various mixes of merlot on the shelf which he wishes to incorporate into his blend. He's going to mix 10L of 15% Merlot with 20L of 25% Merlot and 30L of 35% Merlot to start. The question is, how much pure Malbec and how much pure Petite Sirah must he add to his mix so that Giuseppe's Reserve has a final composition that is 7% Malbec and 8% Petite Sirah? WHat will be the percent of Merlot in his final mix?
