Why couldn't my 19 yr old friend and I buy a bottle of wine in Madrid, Spain?
I am 18 yrs old and Liz is 19. We walked to a Repsol gas station in madrid (Arturo Soria) and tried to buy a bottle of wine. We were refused. However, we are Americans studying abroad and we are still learning Spanish...so we didn't understand the reasoning behind the action when the lady took the bottle of wine away. We nearly cried. Was this racism? Did they just not like americans.....or is there some law about not being able to buy alcohol in gas stations beyond a certain hour? It was a friday night. We were able to buy a cocktail from a bar, however. What was the problem? Thank you.

They were SO different from anything else we'd tried in Europe or the States, but I couldn't even find these wines in Madrid or in Berlin (Galerie Lafayette, KDW, no luck!). Is there anywhere that I can find some of these wines here in the US?
