I've drank expensive and cheap wines and I honestly can't tell the difference sometimes. I recognize that there are good wines and bad ones, but I find that it often has little to do with the price (except for really cheap wine which is usually bad).
My friends say I can't tell the difference because I'm really a beer person and not a wine person, which is true. However, I don't think they can really tell the difference either.
What are your opinions? Is wine a lot of pretense? Does the emperor have no clothes or am I just ignorant?

I heard this story about an ancient Roman fad under some Emperor or other where they swallowed a goldfish served in a glass of wine. Is this story true?

I`ve tasted some crappy "fine wine" in my time. A wine expert gave us some of his "best"wine, it tasted like cats pee. But everyone else were saying how lovely it was, until the next day, and then some of them said , it was awful. So come on ,admit it you expert wine tasters its a big con, and your all falling for it. A bit of the Emperors clothes perhaps.

What drove him from the beginning? What did he want to achieve? When he became emperor he didn't lust women, wine and other "fun" things. Instead he worked day and night nonstop, why? Is it because he had "Napoleon complex", that he felt inferior and he needed to prove his worth? Did he want to bring France back to former glory and make a France empire out of Europe?

There is zero evidence for the existence of any deity. A book of bronze and iron age myths compiled by a pagan emperor and mistranslated under the orders of a European king isn't evidence. A scientific theory requires evidence, and must be repeatable. Ever try raising the dead or turning water into wine? I'm all up for seeing a virgin give birth, but that isn't happening either. What thought process allows anyone to even attempt to compare religious stories with scientific theories?

I just love Russian waltzes. They are moody, dark and melancholic. I love Viennese Waltzes too : they're bright, happy and... well, spinning. I just got a few, and I'm curious if I have listened to the best of waltz or not :
Russian Waltzes :
- Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Flower from the Nutcracker Suite and Valse de deux from the Swan Lake Suite
- Khachaturian's Masquerade Waltz (it's Armenian for sure, but it borrow something from the Soviet Russia and it's quite the second best of the composer.)
- All of Shostakovich's waltzes from the Ballet Suites and Jazz Suites.
- Sviridov's Snowstorm Waltz.
- Ivanovici's Danube Waves.
- Autumn Dream Waltz (I don't know the composer)
- On the Manchurian Hills (a Soviet-era waltz)
Viennese Waltzes : all I know was Strauss II's composition.
- The Blue Danube
- Vienna Blood
- Tales from the Vienna Woods
- Die Fledermaus
- Roses from the South
- Voices of spring
- Emperor Waltz
- Wine, woman and song
I just don't know if I missed anything major, because I never listened to Sergey Prokofiev and most of Tchaikovsky. I also wonder if Mozart composed waltzes ? So, if any of you got what I know, I'm most pleased to listen. Thank you for your time !
