Cuyo has the esteem of being considered the wine region of Argentina. It is a province that encompasses the famous wine growing areas of Mendoza, San Luis, San Juan, and San Rafael. La Riaoja is considered to be part of New Cuyo.
Cuyo is in a mountainous area on the north western border of Argentina that has a diverse geography mixed with ideal weather for grape growing. As the fifth largest wine producer in the world, Argentina owes most of that to the region of Cuyo. Some of the highest peaks in the Andes lay in this region, giving microclimates to areas and diversity in the wines.
